Outfitting My Novacraft Prospector 16'
Phase 5:  Re-designing the QRKT
Although I feel that Mk I of the QRKT will work very
well, I decided to investigate a modification.
(Illustration of original concept right).

The point was to prevent any slippage in the
straps by providing a solid stop for the thwart to
rest against.  It was important to have only the
front of the thwart secured, as if the rear was
stabilised, a rapid exit in that direction would be
impeded.  It is very unlikely that the QRKT would
need to be removed rapidly in a forwards direction.

I have made a prototype, but it is, at best,
amateurish.  When I can get into a workshop
again, I hope to completely redesign the hangers
for the system.

The re-modeled
thwart.

A notch to the front to
allow secure location
with the hangers.  I
have provided a
chamfer at the rear of
the thwart as this
allows the webbing
strap to be tightened
and secured more
efficiently.
The locating and securing block at the fron
of the hanger.  I'm not at all happy with the
aesthetics of this, but it will do for testing
the practicality of the concept.

Hopefully it is obvious how the introduction
of the chamfer to the rear of the thwart
allows the webbing to sit more securely.
